Biomedical Sciences Academy

The academy of Biomedical Sciences introduces high school students to the human body, cell biology, genetics, disease, and other biomedical topics in the sequence of four courses. The program prepares students for postsecondary education and training necessary for success in a wide variety of positions: physician, nurse, pharmaceutical researcher, technician, etc. which will focus on the application of these principles to life sciences.

iMed Medical Academy

The iMed Medical Academy will offer a sequence of courses that will provide coherent and rigorous content, aligned with challenging academic standards to prepare potential pre-med students for advanced post-secondary coursework. The iMed Medical Academy will prepare students for pre-med by offering a solid grounding in anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry and physics, along with opportunities to shadow and work alongside medical professionals at local medical schools as well as hospitals which may include Homestead Baptist Hospital and Larkin Community Hospital.

Pharmaceutical Sciences Academy

The objectives of the curriculum for the Pharmacy Academy are:

  • To develop student citizens and leaders
  • To develop science inquiry and modeling skills
  • To develop and improve technological skills
  • To prepare students to pursue post-secondary education in the medical field
  • To survey professional opportunities in the medical field

The curriculum is built around the model of understanding the human body is critical to understanding the disease process and the pharmacological interventions utilized to address the disease process. The class will examine the disease process from an allosteric load perspective. Each unit will address a different body system and the system’s relationship to the body. Within each unit, anatomy and physiology will be reviewed, then the pathophysiology (disease process) of the system will be examined and finally the pharmacological interventions for the pathophysiology will be explored.

Physical Therapy Academy

The academy of Physical Therapy will focus on the science, the research, and latest developments in the technology related to rehabilitative and restorative services. The students will study the human body, chemistry, physics, biomechanics, neuroanatomy, human growth and development, manifestations of disease, examination techniques and therapeutic procedures.

The completion of this field of study will assist the student to move onto the post secondary arena to continue in providing clients with services to optimize their daily living and improve their quality of life.

The Academy of Physical Therapy will focus on the science, research, and latest developments related to rehabilitation and restorative services. The students of this Academy will study human anatomy and physiology, chemistry and physics as well as examination techniques and therapeutic procedures. Students of the Physical Therapy Academy will also be equipped with the most up-to-date health information in preparation for a successful career as a health care professional and for a high quality life as a health consumer.
